Simkins Farm demolitions

This is to highlight to the community the planning application for the demolition of various barns on the Simkins Farm site.  The notices have gone up this week and the closing date for ojections is 5 March.  IAn emailer to this site is particularly concerned at the impact this demolition will have on the Barn Owls who live possibly in or very close to these barns.  She says many residents enjoy watching the impressive owls hunting on the hook fields and is sure many would wish to object to these demolitions for the sake of these wonderful birds.  The planning application number is 09/00159/LBC.

Julie Palmer also writes as follows:-

These are the current planning applications for the farm. You can easily find them all by entering 'Simkins Farm' in the search on the planning section of RBC's website. However its much easier to follow what's intended if you look at the plans at RBC's offices.

09/00013/FUL Detached Garage (deadline come & gone)
now also
09/00087/LBC Demolish store and wall
09/00088/LBC Demolish stables, Demolish wall, reduce height of wall to 1.5m
09/00159/LBC Demolish farm Building, Haystore, Grainstore & Machinery Store

(and pending 09/00158/FUL,  not yet registered but it is for 14 dwellings).

The 3 notices posted in early Feb outside the farm give a deadline of 5th March although online its sooner than this. I've spoken to the case officer Michelle Dunn and she says ignore the online dates. Her direct line number is 0115 9819911 ext 223 (not the number given on the notices, that only gets you through to RBC reception!)

The stables they want to demolish in 00088/LBC are those in the centre of the yard with the wooden gable end and weather vane that you can see from the road. They haven't shown a photo of the most attractive side of this building. Its under the roof of this building that swallows have nested every year from the 80's till now, to my knowledge, and from before that I'm sure. The wall they want to reduce the height of is the brick one that joins onto the farm house and that you see from Adbolton Lane. Reducing the height of this wall would have quite an impact on the setting of the farmhouse.

There are four buildings they want to demolish in 00159/LBC. These are round the back and to the sides of the stack yard ie way behind the farmhouse next to the back paddock. Two are modern, two are old.

There was also 09/00013/FUL which was to build a new garage. That deadline's now gone, but the reduction in height (to 1.5m) of the front wall in 00088/LBC would mean that the garage would be more visible from the road than was shown in 00013/FUL.

Looks like they've ignored the planners rules and regulations and demolished it without permission.  This now makes way for whatever they want to build and makes a nonsense of listed buildings being protected.
