Proposed Stadium Development at Holme Pierrepont - ACTION before 25th August 2009,

Are you aware of the proposal within the Nottingham 2018 World Cup bid to build a 50,000 seater stadium at Holme Pierrepont?

The site currently identified is on land to the East of Regatta Way occupied by Greenacres Caravan Park and the new Sports Ground.

ITS NEVER TOO LATE TO MAKE A COMMENT - before it's built at least...

At FIELDS we recognise the benefits of being a World Cup host city and whilst we do not oppose the bid in principal, we think the site identified for the proposed stadium could not be more inappropriate for the following reasons:

  • The location is currently ‘Green Belt' and a stadium at least 40 metres above ground level occupying a site of 17 acres would be completely out of character with the surroundings.
  • The location is on the Trent Floodplain. The development will require in the region of 50,000 cubic metres of concrete and will cover land, which at present slows water run-off into local watercourses and the River Trent, thereby increasing the flood risk to local properties.
  • The transport infrastructure is woefully inadequate to cope with 50,000 spectators getting to and leaving the proposed location. It is further away from the railway station than the existing football ground, nowhere near a tram route and would create even more congestion on the A52.

Not withstanding the re-development of the current City Ground we believe that there are more appropriate sites for the proposed stadium within the city, which should be fully considered before even contemplating development of the Green Belt.

We would urge you to outline your objections to the proposed stadium location for the reasons outlined above and to do this by 25th August 2009, which is when the preliminary bid has to be submitted by Nottingham.

Objections can be sent in writing to the following:

So it's been a slightly busy time (and other lame excuses), and I have missed the 25th August deadline. Is it still worth writing to someone to object to this ABOMINABLE proposal?
(By the way, I quite like football. Do we need a Fans Against the Ridiculous Stadium  Extension? Perhaps with a better acronym...)

It would never be built, but trying to would blight the area.
No one could get to it due to a lack of roads
The roads we have would be destroyed by the traffic
Lady Bay would be totally wiped out as a nice place to live - I don't like football and would move out, so would many other people.
It would flood.
-------------

Environmentally -  Without a tram line it would encourage car use - a very bad thing. Further building on farm land will lower our chance of self-sufficient  food production even more.
Light and sound pollution.
Water run-off lowered - increasing chance of flooding the rest of the area.
