Spring/Summer term @ Seymour Road Studios

These relaxed themed and project-based classes generally run from 10am-4pm (inc lunch break). The emphasis is very much on learning through pleasure, as well as on productivity, of course.

  • 8th June:
Around the house: this day will be partially weather dependent – if the weather is dry we will take our sketching out into the garden for at least part of the day. There we will sketch views of the built environment in and beyond the garden. If the weather is wet we will retreat indoors where we will sketch interiors throughout the ground floor of the house.

  • 23 March:  Nature’s artistry: a fun day exploring print-making using natural and found objects (eg leaves, feathers, textured papers, bubblewrap etc) and combining them with other simple techniques to create some wonderfully effective images.

  • 20th June:  Drypoint day: Drypoint is one of the intaglio print-making techniques and can give some lovely effects quite similar to etching but with a softer darker line as the ink is taken from the burr created when mark-making on the plate rather than from the engraved line itself.

NB only bisc firing is included in the price. If required, glazing & glost firing may be arranged at extra cost

  • 27th & 28 April: Coil building (garden terracotta): coiling is a wonderfully versatile technique allowing the potter’s inventiveness free rein! Those who come on both days will have the opportunity to develop and refine their work further as well as to explore the making of a wider variety of shapes.
  • 8th & 9th June: Slip-decoration: we will make relatively simple forms such as tiles and dishes so that we can enjoy focusing on some of the decorative slip techniques such as paper resist, sgraffitto, sponge stamping, marbling, inlay, feathering over the two days (NB 1 students booking just one day will be able to complete a smaller number of techniques).  (NB 2 Decorative slips are simply a mixture of clay with colouring oxides or stains mixed with enough water to reach a creamy consistency suitable for applying to leather hard clay.)

PRICE: £55 per person per day (all basic materials and processes included except where specified).

  • There is a £5 discount for any individual booking two days on the same weekend (NB this discount only applies if both days run)
  • For the perfect present for someone special you can buy a gift voucher for a place on any one of our courses – contact us to find out more!
