Tokyo Green
The Tokyo Green gig at the Poppy & Pint on 12 November was attended by over 80 people. This four piece electric, instrumental, rock jazz fusion band kept the attention of the audience for two sets with their own compositions and a short medley of covers. There was a raffle at half time. At four pounds for a ticket on the door, people received value for money and were treated to the fruits of Tokyo Green’s considerable creativity, originality and their professional performance.
Adam Rockley’s precision drumming and his personality drove the numbers with confidence and touches of humour. All three guitarists played lead at some point with Geordie Mackintosh having a more gentle spice of jazz and even classical flavouring to his rock performance. Nick Liptrot delivered on exciting intense rock numbers and Steve Walls moved deftly and confidently from bass to rhythm and some lead. All three guitarists play bass at some time! A session drummer who attended the was delighted and said that he had only seen bands like this in America.
Our joy derived from hearing the fruits of years of practice, composition, improvisation and development of a distinctive style. The music was not predictable. We were taken on an interesting, meandering, journey with many unexpected, thrilling vistas presented for our pleasure. At the end of the evening some of the foot tappers felt compelled to dance and there was a welcome encore.
Over £200 was raised for Friends of the Hook and several folk were happy recipients of raffle prizes of chocolates and champagne. Also eight bottles of beer kindly donated by the Poppy & Pint. Tokyo Green can be followed on Facebook.

Fiddle Folk group
Are you interested in playing folk / traditional / world music ?
We are a small group of adults who are learning to play the fiddle. We get together every couple of weeks in West Bridgford to play folk tunes from around the world (plus whatever takes our fancy!) and are keen to extend the group to include other acoustic instruments and more fiddles.
Most of us have only been learning the fiddle for a couple of years. We play just for fun and only beginner - intermediate standard with the emphasis on the enjoyment of playing along with others.
If you are interested in joining us, we would love to hear from you, particularly if you are learning an instrument yourself, or perhaps you used to play and would like to get back into it.
If you would like to get in touch please email folkmusic2011@hotmail.com or telephone 982 0926.
The Poppy Folk Club meets at The Poppy and Pint on the second or third Sunday in the month. Check out their website for what's on.
