Children’s Centres are available for parents expecting a baby, or those with a child under five years old.  Parents and carers can choose which area they register but then they can only access services within their specific community. Your local children’s centre is Abbey and Lady Bay which is situated on the site of Abbey Primary School.  

Our activities are run from various community venues as well as our specially tailored building. We work closely with other partner organisations such as the health centre, schools, playgroups and after-schools clubs, libraries and community and voluntary groups.

Who are we?

Family Support Team
Our Family Support Workers can offer advice and support before and after baby is born. They can encourage you to help your child learn through play in the home and can introduce you to activities within the Children’s Centre and the surrounding community. They can access other services which can support your family and give advice on your family’s health and wellbeing.

Children’s Workers
Our Children’s Workers run the sessions for the children with play and activities from 0-5 years. They also run the crèches and help support the local health visiting team.

Community Involvement
Our Community Involvement Assistants work within the community to integrate our services. They recruit volunteers, support the parent’s forum and work to develop Sure Start services in the community.

Co-ordinator
The Co–ordinator manages the team in delivering the Sure Start agenda within the local community. They are actively involved with the Local Steering Groups and support the partners we work with.

What else do we do?

Holiday activities
We are involved in a range of holiday activities delivered by Sure Start or supporting community events that you can come along to and meet new friends.

Breast Feeding Support Group
Meet other breast feeding mums.

Young Parents Group
If you are under 25 come along and make new friends.

Allsorts
A support group for parents whose children have additional needs.

Dad’s Group
Our Dad’s Group meets on the first Saturday each month. Come along to meet other Dad’s and male carers whilst enjoying the play activities with your child/children.

Volunteering
There is a variety of volunteering opportunities available at the centre or other organisations we work with. Please contact the centre if you are interested.

Parents Forum and Local Advisory Group
Our Parents Forum meets regularly and is open to any parent in West Bridgford and the surrounding area who has child/ren under 5. It’s an opportunity to have a say and for us to listen to your views so we can continue to improve services.

The Local Advisory Group is a gathering of parents, carers, professionals and local councillors who wish to shape services in the community.
