Lady Bay - West Bridgford

Rushcliffe Photographic Society

The Society, which was founded in the 1980’s to ‘promote participation and enjoyment in photography’, is a friendly, mixed ability group of around 40 persons - a number of whom are Lady Bay residents. The club meets every Tuesday evening from 7:30 pm at The Parish Rooms, Burnside Grove, Tollerton NG12 4ET.

We include complete novices as well as more experienced photographers, ranging in age from 18 to 99 - which means in fact that one of our members will be having his 100th brithday with us in the new season!

We aim to help one another to get more out of our photography by meeting and discussing photography with like minded individuals, to develop our practical photographic skills and techniques with our cameras and in the digital darkroom through workshops and practical sessions and to hone our critique skills.

We offer an imaginative programme of activities and events that includes practical ‘hands-on’ sessions where we practice different camera and lighting techniques, and talks and presentations from a number of guest speakers from the wider photographic community including some highly acclaimed specialists in wildlife, automotive, forensic and landscape photography. Our programme also includes evenings out at local sites and field trips to further away locations. We also arrange occasional saturday Workshops where small groups get together to work on a particular aspect of photography, such as image processing, or useing flashguns, etc.

In recent years we've arranged an annual photographic 'long weekend' away and we have now had successful trips to the Buttermere in the Lake District, Beaumaris and Anglesey, Lindisfarne and the North East, Dorset and the Purbeck coast and, this year, North Norfolk and the Broads. These breaks are a superb opportunity to spend time with like-minded individuals, to improve your camera skills and to have a great time too!

Our Society runs a number of competitions throughout the year for the club's members. These competitions have a class for beginners and intermediate level photographers, and a class for the more advanced/experienced members.

One of our annual competitions is a five round event, run throughout the year, with two 'open' rounds and three 'themed' rounds: The themes for the coming year are 'Dereliction & Decay', 'Close-up or Macro' and 'Sport' and we have sections for printed images and for projected images. There will also be a 'monochrome' competition, and a panel competition, where the entrant provides a series of images (prints or projected) that are displayed for judging as a complete set or panel.
