Suspension footbridge over the Trent

Dear all,

Many of you will already be aware that the suspension footbridge over the Trent has been closed for some months now. The owners, Severn Trent Water, have been slow to even inspect the bridge to ascertain the work that needs to be carried out before it is reopened. Indeed for a time there was little assurance that it would be re-opened at all.

Various groups and individuals including myself, have been campaigning for the bridge to be repaired and re-opened as soon as possible, without it cyclists and pedestrians face a significant detour either to Trent Bridge or out to Wilford. We have lobbied both the City and County Councils as well as Severn Trent Water but repairs are still a long way off.

We think this isn't good enough. The suspension bridge is part of our local transport infrastructure and provided a safe, traffic free crossing encouraging people to walk and cycle rather than drive to and from the city.

Please visit the Pedals website at www.pedals.org.uk and follow the link to sign the petition. Also find attached a flyer which you can print off & hand out to any interested parties, or use as the basis of a letter to Severn Trent. Many thanks,
