Footpath to Trent Lock
LBCA has been trying for about 20 years to have a public footpath officially designated by the County Council running from the edge of the Hook along the riverbank to Trent Lock.
As the path was a tow path used in the 18th century for horses to draw barges along the river, this path has been used as a right of way for about 200 years! We started the campaign because some residents walking along the path were asked to pay for entrance to the water sports centre as there was an event on and were thus unable to walk along the river bank. Apparently, today, the subject of the designation of the path to Radcliffe-on-Trent was under discussion at the County Council. The officers recommended refusal as land owners and the fishing club want £200,000 compensation if the official designation goes ahead. This is what County Councillor Cooper told us about in May at the spring meeting. The decision was deferred for legal reasons. However, the land which is proving to be a problem is past Trent lock so there should be no reason why "our bit" should not be officially designated. The Evening Post informed me about the meeting today (7th september) not the County Council! I told the reporter about all the problems we've been having re the County Council and footpaths and he is going to write an article about it.

The article was published 12/9/2006.

[The Post want a picture of Lady Bay people on the path (gate by entrance  to Hook) so please come to my house (135, Trent Boulevard) between 10 and 11 tomorrow so we can show our support for the designation. If there's alot of you you may have to wait for the photographer in the garden! Tell your friends! ]

Councillor Sue Blount. Secretary, Lady Bay Community Association.
