Today I was buying goods at Morrisons Gamston and
was the victim of a distraction theft.
I paid at the self service and
while processing my goods another customer dropped a large bottle (of
cide) over the area and everyone was then occupied mopping up. I paid
and went to meet my husband at the car wash. While standing beside the
car wash waiting for him to come out, a couple approached waving a £10
note . the man said in broken English I had dropped it. I said I
didn't think in was mine but he persisted at length until I took out my
wallet and checked for a £10 note missing. He kept talking all the
time so my attention was on him. When I told my husband, he
immediately said, check your wallet and my bank card was gone. We
raced back to the shop thinking I had left it but no. Then I
immediately phoned my bank and £480 had already been taken out at the
cashpoint. They must have seen my pin no while everyone was milling
around clearing up the spilled liquid and then the woman must have
taken my card while I had my wallet out and the man distracted me.
I have reported it to the police but a warning about distraction by
saying you have dropped £10 might be helpful to others? This has
happened elsewhere in the country see http://www.surrey.police.uk/media/news_item.asp?area=2&itemID=11939
