BURGLARIES DOWN BY 23 PER CENT
Wednesday September 24, 2008

The number of burglaries committed in and around the West Bridgford and Ruddington areas has fallen by 23 per cent in the past six months.
From April to September 2008 there have been 128 burglaries, around the two towns, which is 38 less burglaries than the same time last year.

In addition all crime committed in the area, which also includes, Edwalton, Gamston and Ladybay, is down by 19.25 per cent, which amounts to 369 less victims.
However in the past week there has been a string of insecure burglaries in and around central West Bridgford and Compton Acres.

As a result police are urging residents to lock up all windows and doors and to ensure valuable are not left on display.

Local Area Commander, Inspector Norman England, said: Over the last three years West Bridgford and the surrounding areas have seen a gradual decline in house burglaries and we are on track to see a further reduction this year.
“However a recent spate of insecure burglaries, which have happened at all times of the day and night, is causing me some concern.
“Many of the burglaries have been made easier because residents have left windows and doors ajar.

During one burglary a white man entered a home in Central Avenue, West Bridgford, at around 2.30pm September 19 and stole alcohol.

He is described as aged around 30, with short dark brown hair and was wearing dark clothing and a carrying a rucksack.

Car keys and bags have been taken from other properties, where doors and windows have been left open.

Insp England said: In an effort to catch these offenders I ask residents to report anyone acting suspiciously to the police immediately.

In addition make a note of their appearance, clothing and details of any vehicles linked to the individuals.

Properties also need to be secure at all times and we must try to break the habit of leaving valuables by open doors and windows.
“If residents wish to receive a home security check then please contact your local PCSO or the Police Station to arrange a visit.

Anyone with information about these burglaries and identity of any offenders should call Nottinghamshire Police on 0115 967 0999 and ask for West Bridgford Police Station.
