Residents in South Nottinghamshire are still being called upon by door
to door sales people, know as pedlars. To sell door to door a pedlar
certificate is required.
A PEDLARS CERTIFICATE is a certificate that allows a person to sell
goods (usually trinkets, household goods and other hand made objects),
whilst on foot. Pedlars can travel from: door to door, place to place,
or town to town.
A pedlars certificate once issued can be used anywhere in the United
Kingdom. The "pedlar" cannot remain in one place and sell items, a
pedlar goes to their customers to sell items rather that allow
customers to come to them.
A pedlars certificate is obtained from the chief of police from the
area where they have lived for at least 28 days within the district
they are applying for the licence. They have to be of good character.
The certificate bears their personal details (must be aged over 17)
with their photograph and an official police stamp.
Please note that having a pedlars certificate is in no way an indication that the goods for sale are of merchantable quality.
I know that many of you has received similar messages in the past - but
we keep getting new recipients to the Ringmaster system on a daily
basis.
