The Lady Bay Litter Pickers is, and always has been, a very casual group. The Community fund has, in the past, funded litter picking equipment for any local person to use. Harriet Scott holds this equipment and makes it available on request. They are also supported generously by Streetwise, who give us bin bags, loan us litter Pickers and arrange for the collection of rubbish.
Harriet tries to organise 2 community litter picks a year, but thinks it has been a year since the last one!
She is in contact with the leaders of local groups like Brownies, Guides, Cubs and Scouts. Also some rambling groups and The Canal and Rivers Trust. They all contact her if they want to add litter picking to their activities. We have had much support from local businesses with Lady Bay Pub, Poppy and Pint, the (now defunct) Holy Calzone and Mcdonalds offering staff to help litter pick and free refreshments to all volunteers.
The Litter Pickers are mainly publicised via the Ladybay Local Facebook group, as are events published by Streetwise and any others as they crop up.
In terms of getting involved, people tend to email or Facebook message Harriet. She keeps the equipment in her porch, which is accessible 24/7 and they can just collect and drop off as and when it suits them.
If you want to get involved or add your support with the organisation, Harriet can be contacted on email here.
