Many of the following offer special activities for children, including (sometimes) after-school activities.  Check with each organisation.

Sports & Physical activity - all ages


Our local club is Boots Hockey club, who run a number of sides for men and women and for girls and boys, via their Junior Academy.  They are based at the sports ground at the beginning of Holme Road.

Also West Bridgford Hockey club run many childrens and adults teams, male and female, based mainly at West Bridgford School ('the Comp') but also at the Becket school.

They are also famous for their Real Ale festival.


Nottingham Rugby Club, based at the start of Holme Road, run courses and teams for children (girls and boys) as well as men and women.  E.g. in winter 2020 they ran 45 minute Little Rugger sessions cost £2. Rugby Tots operate sessions for 2-7 year-old boys and girls at weekends at the Ruschliffe Arena.  Website is at

Nottingham Corsairs run male and female treams plus sessions and teams for kids -


Nottingham Sailing Club is located on the River Trent, just down from the Hook, before the National Water Sports Centre. They have over 250 members and pride themelves on the friendly atmosphere of the Club. New members are always welcome. Members enjoy a variety of racing, cruising, training (RSA-accredited, including 'learn to sail') and social activities.

There are two other canoe clubs nearby, one general canoe club called Holme Pierrepont Canoe Club (based at the white water course there (, and Nottingham Kayak Club ( which is more of a racing club for marathon, sprint, and wild water racing based on the river, next to the Forest ground.


West Bridgford Colts are based just down the road in Regatta Way, although they play at several venues around West Bridgford.  They run teams for girls and boys of all ages plus men's teams and, now, women's as well).

Fog has to be bad to stop play.


Gedling & Sherwood CC play at Regatta Way Sports Ground.  Adult teams playing Saturdays and Sunday plus Juniors (6-15) on Friday evenings.

MArtial Arts

Tai Chi Chuan - Classes every Tuesday at 11-30am to 12-30pm, Poppy and Pint (Beginners, teacher Lisa Brindley) and at 7-15 to 8-15pm, All Hallows Breckles Hall (No further details at the moment).
