Reducing Energy Usage in the Home

What we know so far

There are plenty of reasons for reducing energy usage in our homes. The trouble is that our basic housing fabric isn't best suited to thermal efficiency. Many of our houses are either Victorian/Edwardian or else constructed in the 20s-50s. This means solid walls and ventilated floors and, for the Victorian and Edwardian houses, cellars and sliding sash windows.

Fortunately we have at least local source of knowledge on the subject - the Nottingham Energy Partnership (NEP), based in the Meadows. We also have a number of homes that have already tried to improve their energy efficiancy. So these pages are aimed at sharing what information we have and what lessons might be learned.
